History<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\nThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)\u00a0was formed officially in 1962 with the sole purpose to make a common standard and platform for every student in the country. From only 302 affiliated schools in 1962, CBSE is today affiliated with a whooping approximately 21,500 plus schools in India and 220 schools in 28 foreign countries. CBSE in all these years has set a good standard of education in India. With its influential educational policies, CBSE has reformed the education system of the country.<\/p>\n
Objectives<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\nThe mail objectives of CBSE are:-<\/p>\n
\n- To define appropriate approaches of academic activities to provide stress free, child centered and holistic education to all children without compromising on quality<\/li>\n
- To analyze and monitor the quality of academic activities by collecting the feedback from different stakeholders<\/li>\n
- To develop norms for implementation of various academic activities including quality issues; to control and coordinate the implementation of various academic and training programs of the Board; to organize academic activities and to supervise other agencies involved in the process<\/li>\n
- To adapt and innovate methods to achieve academic excellence in conformity with psychological, pedagogical and social principles.<\/li>\n
- To encourage schools to document the progress of students in a teacher and student friendly way<\/li>\n
- To propose plans to achieve quality benchmarks in school education consistent with the National goals<\/li>\n
- To organize various capacity building and empowerment programs to update the professional competency of teachers<\/li>\n
- To prescribe conditions of examinations and conduct public examination at the end of Class X and XII. To grant qualifying certificates to successful candidates of the affiliated schools.<\/li>\n
- To fulfill the educational requirements of those students whose parents were employed in transferable jobs<\/li>\n
- To prescribe and update the course of instructions of examinations<\/li>\n
- To affiliate institutions for the purpose of examination and raise the academic standards of the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Affiliations<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\nThe Board grants affiliation to Schools up to higher secondary level and develops common curriculum keeping nationwide requirements in focus.\u00a0The affiliation is considered as a prestigious recognition as it requires the schools to follow rigid quality standards.<\/p>\n
The CBSE affiliation is internationally accepted. The CBSE carries out continuous research and development for the advancement of the academic standards in the country. It has recently introduced the\u00a0Grading system\u00a0based on continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE).<\/p>\n
The prime focus of the Board is on<\/p>\n
\n- Innovations in teaching-learning methodologies by devising students friendly and students centred paradigms.<\/li>\n
- Reforms in examinations and evaluation practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\n- Skill learning by adding job-oriented and job-linked inputs.<\/li>\n
- Regularly updating the pedagogical skills of the teachers and administrators by conducting in service training programs,\u00a0workshops etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Examinations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nCBSE conducts the final examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 every year in the month of March. The results are announced by the end of May.\u00a0The board earlier conducted the\u00a0AIEEE\u00a0Examination for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering and architecture in colleges across India. However, the AIEEE exam was merged with the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)\u00a0in 2013. The common examination is now called JEE (Main) and is henceforth conducted by\u00a0National Testing Agency.<\/p>\n
CBSE also conducts\u00a0AIPMT\u00a0(All India Pre Medical Test) for admission to major medical colleges in India. In 2014, the conduct of the National Eligibility Test for grant of a junior research fellowship and eligibility for assistant professor in institutions of higher learning was outsourced to CBSE.\u00a0Apart from these tests, CBSE also conducts the\u00a0Central Teacher Eligibility Test\u00a0and the Class X optional proficiency test.\u00a0With the addition of NET in 2014, the CBSE has become the largest exam conducting body in the world.<\/p>\n
On 10 November 2017, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared a proposal for the creation of a National Testing Agency (NTA) serving as the premier autonomous body for conducting entrance examinations in the country. Beginning in 2018 various exams previously conducted by the CBSE were transferred to the NTA including\u00a0National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate),\u00a0Joint Entrance Examination \u2013 Main,\u00a0National Eligibility Test,\u00a0Central Universities Common Entrance Test\u00a0and others.<\/p>\n
